Biography

Emily Florence was born in 1947 in Magna, Utah, a small copper mining town. At 20 she relocated to Miami Beach and then to New York City where she raised her two children. As her children and her career as a paralegal flourished, she found more time to devote to her art. In 2005 she was suddenly stricken with Myalgic Encephelomyelitis known in the U.S. as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, ending her legal career and prompting her relocation to Northern California where her son and grandson live. Her art became her solace. After suffering a heart attack in 2013 which required a stent and receiving much needed medical help for her ME/CFS, her health began to improve. Her first love is in abstract watercolors, allowing the flow of paint to dictate the direction of the piece. She is now enjoying the sublime processes of fluid art and monoprinting.
